January Au Pair Meeting - Fire Safety

During the winter months, fire and carbon monoxide poison prevention are two important concerns. We’ve arranged for the Southlake Fire Department to facilitate a discussion on fire safety and carbon monoxide poisoning. There will also be a tour of the station. 
The Keller au pair group will be joining us as well. Afterwards, we will be going to lunch at Southlake Town Square.

November CEP Meeting

At this safety meeting we will be focusing on Household Poisoning Prevention. The goal is to teach you about the dangers of household poisons and precautions that can be taken to keep poisons away from kids. The presentation will be given by Mike Yudizky, a Public Health Educator/Firefighter.

The Keller au pair group will be joining us for this informative meeting.

OF COURSE MY HOME’S POISON PROOF…OR IS IT?

About the program:

Last year in the United States, a child six years of age or younger was poisoned every 30 seconds because most adults don’t know how to “poison proof”.  Most adults don’t know that to “poison proof”, they have to look through their toddlers eyes instead of their own.  This class will show you how.

About the speaker:

Mike Yudizky has a BS degree in education for East Texas State University and is a former schoolteacher.  Currently he is a firefighter/paramedic with the Dallas Fire Department.  He has been with the Dallas Fire Department for 25 years and has been a paramedic for the last 23 years.  Mike was awarded the fire department’s Paramedic of the Year award in 1986.  Mike is also employed full time with the North Texas Poison Center in Dallas .  He has been with the Poison Center for 14 years and has been the public educator for the last 10 years.  Mike did over 400 education programs last year.  Currently, he also serves as a Co-Chair of the Public Education Committee of the American Association of Poison Control Centers.

Learning objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant should be able to:

1.     Know why children get poisoned;

2.     Know how the North Texas Poison Center works;

3.     Know how to poison proof their home;

4.     Have a better understanding of bites and stings

Host Family Referral Incentive

From July 1st through July 31st when a referred host family applies and welcomes an au pair by October 21, 2011, the referring family can choose to receive a $400 program fee discount, or cash bonus! Each referred family must be new to Cultural Care Au Pair, have children under the age of 18, and must welcome an au pair by October 21, 2011.

May Safety Meeting - May 11th at 7:15pm

Join me, the Keller au pair group and Officer R.J.  Harr of the Coppell Police Department for an evening of safety information.
Officer R.J. Harr will discuss personal, bike and playground safety. He will also review basic self defense moves.
All attendees will leave with a take-home safety guide to reference throughout this season and beyond.

Au Pair and Host Family Event in March

The first host family event this year will be held in March at Fuddruckers restaurant in Grapevine. Program Director Angie Sisk and the Keller group will be joining us for this exciting event! We will have our own private room located in the back of the restaurant next to the bakery.

Host families: This is your opportunity to meet other host families in our group. Please remember that the US State Department requires you to participate in at least one host family event per year. I will offer another host family event in the fall.

Au pairs: This will count as your mandatory monthly meeting.
